Birth story

I the last couple of days I've been thinking about labor/birth, then I remembered that I never shared my labor story here. So before it takes any longer, I decided to do that today. It's not going to be exact, because after more then 3 years I don't really remember all the details. But here we go:
My due date was April 14th 2010 (Wednesday), until that day I didn't have any contractions but I knew I was dilating because my doctor had told me. I had my doctors appointment and I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced.
Friday I had to go to the hospital just to be monitored and make sure her heartbeat was good. I stayed there for 30 minutes with Andrew and Rita (mother-in-law). Everything was good and then I left. We went to a few places after that and then I came back home. Around 3:00 a.m. I woke up with contractions, I couldn't believe that I finally was having some contractions hahaha I decided not to wake Andrew up and went to the living room to count my contractions, they were 4 minutes apart. I stayed up for about an hour, after that it kind stopped so I went back to bed. I got up around 9:30, took a shower, had breakfast, finishing packing our stuff, then the contractions started again. Andrew called his mom, that was at Bob's house (brother-in-law), we went there and picked her up then went to walk at the park, my contractions started to get close together and stronger. When it was 2 minutes apart we decided to go to the hospital that was just a block way.
We got there around 4:00 p.m. and I was already registered, so we went strait to the labor floor, when I was walking to the room I was supposed to stay, I had a contraction and stopped to breathe, at the same time the nurse asked me if a wanted a wheelchair, but I didn't answer because I was in pain, so Andrew just said that I didn't need one, I was going to walk (because he knew I wanted to stay on my feet as long as I could), and she got kind upset with him, maybe she thought he was being mean.. hahaha So, after my contraction, I told her that I didn't want one and walked all the way to the bedroom. I got there and had to change my clothes, then the nurse came to check me. I was still 3 cm and 80% effaced. Then she asked me if I had done something to start my labor, and I said no and asked why, and she told me that I had a fever, I wasn't feeling it.
They put on the IV and antibiotics and that did hurt, first because I hate needles and second because they had to poke me a few times until they found a place for the IV. I really didn't like to stay in bed having contractions, it was really uncomfortable and the pain was getting stronger. So, when I was around 5-6 cm I asked for the epidural and they came really fast, I thought it was going to take longer.. hehe I didn't have to sit up, the anesthesiologist just asked me to lay on my side and he gave me the epidural, I didn't even feel it, it was so nice and fast. A few minutes later I was feeling great, without any pain and excited to have my baby.
The hours passed by and when it was around 9:00 p.m. the doctor (Doctor Rees) came and decided to break my water, because it  didn't break until then and I was 9 cm dilated. He did that and he told me that it had meconium on it. After that we waited a couple more hours and I hadn't dilated anymore, so they started the pitocin to help me out. A couple more hours and I finally got to 10 cm, but Daphne's heartbeat wasn't doing to good when I was having contractions. Because all the stuff that was happening, the doctor told me that it would be better if we used forceps to help her come out faster. I started to get really scared, I just wanted my baby to be healthy.
So, around 1:30 a.m. we started to get ready. Daphne was facing up, so he had to turn her around, even thou I had epidural, it did hurt. After she was in facing down, we started pushing and she was coming out really fast and easy, after 3 contractions her head was really visible and he put on the forceps, on the next contraction he helped her come down, took off the forceps and in the next contraction she was born!
I didn't even see her, because they had to clean her up, make sure she was not going to breath any meconium. So, I was there in bed trying to see my baby or at least hear her and nothing. I didn't know what to think. Andrew was there close to her looking at all the doctors and nurses taking care of her and my doctor was with me, because he still had to take the placenta out.
After a while she started to cry and I started to cry too, I was so grateful that she was ok.
Then they measured and weighed her, wrapped her in a blanket and then Andrew was holding her for the first time. It was so sweet see the 2 people that I love the most together like that, in that special moment.
I held her for a while, then Andrew left with her, so she would take her first bath. He stayed with her the whole time. I stayed in my bedroom with a nurse, then we went to the other floor where I was going to stay.
Then Andrew came back with her and I started really enjoying our little family. Just the three of us together.
She was born in Provo, UT at 2:06 a.m measuring 20 ½ inches and weighing 7 lbs 15.4 oz

  2. No meu caso, o meu veio de cesárea. Queria tanto ter tido dor como qualquer outra mulher que tenha dado à luz. Parece loucura, mas queria ter tido parto natural, sem epidural sem nada! Obrigada por compartilhar.
